The Slow Lane: Making to Last in a City

19 November @ 17:00 - 19:00

NYC makers explore slow craft, lasting objects, resilient studios, and slower ways of living.

The Slow Lane: Making to Last in a City

New York runs on speed. Yet a growing group of designers chooses to make here slowly, by hand, in small runs, with materials meant to age well. The Slow Lane brings together New York makers to ask what that choice costs and what it gives back. It also asks whether slowness is a way of designing, a way of doing business or a way of living.
The conversation follows three threads. The first is what makes an object worth keeping for decades. The second is how studios protect slow ways of working against the city’s costs, deadlines and expectations. The third is where each maker finds slowness in daily life, from studio rituals to quiet corners of the city.
