Enfleurage and Warm Oil Extraction for Perfumery (Online)

Warm oil extraction: traditional method vs. new oil extraction machines
Websters defines enfleurage as the extraction of essential oils and perfumes from flowers using odorless animal or vegetable fats. That description is just the beginning of a fascinating journey first documented in approximately 1200 BCE. The art of oil-based extractions is a deepening of our relationship to natural materials and the bounty of our planet.
In this online class we will discuss methods for oil-based extraction of raw materials with specific focus on the varying temperatures necessary to unlock the aromas of raw materials without destroying the volatile oils within. Varying temperatures and methods are needed for soft flowers, herbs and hearty flowers, woods, resins and more. As you can imagine, delicate flowers like jasmine or heliotrope would require different interventions than heartier materials like lavender or coffee beans. We will look at traditional extraction methods, as well as the use of new, home-kitchen Extraction Machines.
Join us for a deep dive into creating your own oil-based extractions which you can then use to create your own absolutes, perfumes, and more. This class will be presented online with ample time for questions and discussion.
